Ten Sticks consist of Mark Cooper (Drums) & Stuart Walkinshaw (Guitar)
Responsible for one half of Newcastle-based atmospheric indie quartet 'Grandfather Birds' - Cooper and Walkinshaw began to collaborate on extensive improvised pieces in late 2013 without intention: blending subtle drones and loops to create an ethereal platform on which to present Cooper’s uniquely melodic drumming style. The results are otherworldly textural landscapes interlaced with soaring rhythmical exploration of varying intensities, spontaneously adapted over time with trickles of melody being contort in the chaos. Inspired by instrumental post-rock bands such as Do Make Say Think and Tortoise, Ten Sticks also take loan from ambient, jazz and minimalist composition, utilizing electronics and technique to meld spur-of-the-moment sonic exploration.
