Te Kupu aka D Word composed, and then released the first rap record in Aotearoa "E Tū" with his band Upper Hutt Posse in 1988. Also a digital film-maker, record producer, writer, event co-ordinator and DJ with a weekly program 'Te Kupu Naa Te Kupu' on Māori radio station Te Upoko O Te Ika 1161am based in Te Whanganui a Tara (Wellington), Aoetearoa . Continuing to perform, compose, and manage UHP, he also selects vinyl records as The Good Taste Selector playing an eclectic mix of funk, soul, rap, salsa, reggae, r&b, house, jazz, d&b, house & jungle + more, genre hopping within black musical styles spanning the last 50 years it’s always a journey with killer songs at the core, strictly vinyl records spinning, and when the vibes are right live mc’ing and toasting on the microphone.
