Nymania!

Nymania!

In this part of the hero worship series I present to you one of my favourite white guys, Michael Nyman. Part 1 contains his famous film music for Peter Greenaway, part 2 is composed of other works for film, stage or different performers, while the last part reviews his early soundtracks in different renditions that he himself calls the composer's cut series. Even though some of my favourites are missing in this mix (among them "bravura in the face of grief" from the draughtsmans's soundtrack), i think it gives a good impression of what I like about him: endless repetitions without boredom, smart cross-references, remixes, re-shapings and quotations, often enough from his own work, fierce instrumentation, and sometimes fearless experiments ... and finally, a sense of humour as big as his sense of beauty. Enjoy.
