South Square Centre is run by registered charity Thornton and Allerton Community association. It comprises 12 Grade II listed workers cottage set around a cobbled courtyard at the heart of Thornton’s conservation area. There are numerous art galleries, and activities spaces. South Square run a range of traineeships and workshops and offer volunteering opportunities. There are free events 6-9pm on the first Friday of every month with activities, music, food and exhibitions. Other regular activities include Beginners Yoga, Tutoring, Family Arts Club and Clothes Swaps.

There is also Plenty at the Square Café, The newly launched Watchmakers bar, Rushworths Fine Art Framers, Thornton Antiquarian Societies Archive and 14 artist studios. We are also involved in Thornton Gala and are accountable organisation for Thornton Community Library.
