Simfonia

Brighton, United Kingdom

A dark academic, intertwined with fantasy and reality, classical and pop. All these artistic crossovers became the birth of Gibraltarian-Irish singer, lyricist, cellist, and producer, Hannah S-Smythe’s pseudonym, Simfonia; a portmanteau of classical music terminologies ‘symphony’ and ‘sinfonia’ representing her influence and training in classical music whilst inspired by Disney film and musical theatre scores, as well as pop and dance music of the 90s and 00s.
The Chichester, and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama alum’s music-making dissects existing classical works, as well as her own compositions into a blend of deep house beats, pop punched synths, choral vocoders, and neo-classical orchestration to accompany her pop soprano vocals, delivering lyrics of metaphoric poetry into her personal life experiences. Simfonia cites her influencers and contemporaries being Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Florence + The Machine, Kate Bush, Goldfrapp, Anna Meredith, Jon Hopkins and Imogen Heap.
