A coming of age intersection of Talking Heads, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, and Funkadelic sent David BoNobO on a path to map out what George Clinton once termed "Way Back Yonder Funk." Once he stepped into mixing, he took a cue from the Beastie Boys during their "Ill Communication"/"Check Yer Head" phase, and began mixing at the intersection of diaspora beats. Once he spent a month in Cuba in 2001, the deal was sealed, and DJ Senor BoNobO was born. As if it was a calling to connect the tribes, during the week of 9-11, BoNobO launched a program called "SouLbRosO" on killradio.org, and a bi-weekly club at Boyle Height's infamous "El Tropico." In 2003, he toured Mexico with the band Mezklah, and he has returned many times since to play music, and to marry his wife. In 2012, he launched the podcast "El Ritmo Subversivo / Subversive Rhythm."
