Radio Eclectus #90: In C marathon (June 24, 2021)

Avatar

For Terry Riley's 86th birthday, Radio Eclectus presents an all-new 3-hour In C Eclectathon, devoted entirely to this most iconic of all minimalist compositions. We begin with classic interpretations by Bang on a Can and Riley himself before moving into more unorthodox territory with Chinese instruments, medieval instruments, microtonal instruments, synthesizers, laptops, a rock band, and finally, a West African ensemble—six complete traversals of Riley’s 53-part composition, ranging from 5 to 40 minutes, a combination of medleys and unabridged performances, including several recent recordings. Whether you sample a few minutes or settle in for the full three hours, we trust it'll be a pleasing way to (re)acquaint yourself with this most influential of all minimalist masterpieces.

Featuring Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, Africa Express, Wu Man, Mason Bates, Kronos Quartet, Nick Zinner, Jeff Wootton, Damon Albarn, Badou M’Maye, Stuart Dempster and many others. Annotated playlist in Comments.
