Radio Eclectus #87: Payne, Bley & Cardew (May 6, 2021)

Avatar

Cardew, Bley, Payne & Chadabe are the honorees on this program. We mark Cardew's 85th birthday with his two most famous works: The Great Learning, subject of a new album from Tone Glow, and Treatise, his graphic masterpiece which we present in an hour-long montage surveying 14 different recordings made between 1967 & 2020. We also celebrate Carla Bley’s own 85th with a retrospective of her most experimental works. And we bid farewell to the late Anthony Payne & Joel Chadabe, sample new releases by String Noise, Ksenia Fedorova & the Courvoisier/Rothenberg/Sartorius trio, and continue our survey of BIS Records’ Brandenburg Project with Anders Hillborg’s new violin concerto commissioned as a companion to Bach’s #3.
