The Space Program: Psychedelic and avant-garde music from the 1960s to the present
This week featuring music by: an intriguing team-up of avant-garde musicians for ambient label Balmat; a French artist who sounds like Desertshore-era Nico crossed with Bohren und der club of Gore; a very Irish prog-folk ensemble; middle eastern fuzz rock revivalists Ouzo Bazooka; AmRep-ish Swedish sludge rock band Bacon Wagon; a Pharaoh Sanders inspired French spiritual free jazz group; prolific avant-jazz composer Eiko Ishibashi; something that sounds to me like a cross between Harmonia and Popol Vuh from Holden & Zimpel; impossible (for me) to pronounce Danish ambient artist øjeRum; and a droney minimalist noise collage by legendary composer Annea Lockwood.
