Orientalism focuses on music connected to the Asian, Arabic and Middle eastern world, with a particular interest in the cultural intersections of the Orient and the Occidental, in other words, when western musical ideas influence eastern musical ideas. For example, this could involve Turkish Psych, Egyptian Exotica, Iranian Rock n Roll, Thai Funk, Lebanese Surf or Pakistani Jazz. I have collected many records over the years and have sourced them from various travels, such as a recent trip to Morocco, where I found a trove of forgotten dusty "45s in a unfrequented Marrakesh marketplace. I also enjoy playing more contemporary records that blend Eastern and Western musical ideas.
