"Misirlou" is an old folk song, its origins are obscure. It originated in Asia Minor, now the borderlands of modern Turkey and Greece and can be heard at celebrations of Greeks, Turks, Arabs, or Jews. Who originally wrote this song is lost to history.
Misirlou = Misirlou (Μισιρλού) is the feminine form of Misirlis (Μισιρλής) which comes from the Turkish word Mısırlı, which is formed by combining Mısır ("Egypt" in Turkish, borrowed from Arabic) with the Turkish -lı suffix, literally meaning "Egyptian".

Amazing selecction. I've been working all day listening to it!
This music reminds me of exploration of a foreign land, preferably a desert on the coast!
And yes you should add the version by Τέτος Δημητριάδης...
Yes, I totally agree. This one could have been added. :)
So it leaves me space for the second part!
nice idea.. as a Greek music lover I really enjoy it!!!
Here is the oldest version I was able to find (1927): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3RP2ZbYXtk#t=66
