Naoko The Rock cover image

London, United Kingdom

Naoko was born in Tokyo, Japan. Trained on the piano from the age of four, steadily absorbing a wide range of music from classical to reggae, by 19 she was DJing in her home city and organising regular reggae events called ‘Oldies but Rudies’, ‘Carib Soul’, and ‘7UP!’
Arriving in London in 2001, Naoko joined a band as a percussionist, gigging regularly across London while getting her now-obligatory reggae fix by following Jah Shaka's legendary sound system. The band's split prompted her to return to DJing, and she has been a regular fixture on London's skanking scene ever since, playing residencies for Dog Star's Roots Vibes in Brixton and at Troy Bar in Shoreditch, and is now part of the celebrated Ska Lavin collective with Tiny T, Asher G 'the Rocksteady Daddy' and D'Oxman.
Also She is a member of 'Sisters of Reggae' - an all female Reggae DJ collective playing the 100% vinyl sounds of Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Revival, Roots and Early Digi.
