In the 70’s, George Clinton heeded God’s 7th day command, “Let there be funk” and went around the globe funking ish up. He called his disciples Funkadelic. Sithembile, who finds her roots in the tradition of 2 turntables and a mic, by way of tribute, calls herself Funkedelik – sans the title, it’s not DJ Funkedelik, just MizFunkedelik. It’s quite fitting, after all funk is Hip Hop’s closest ancestor. Although primarily a Hip Hop head, with a bias for the sample, the kick and the snare, when on the decks her selection of music is often trans-genre and in tune with the pulse of the her audience.  To this end she spins soul, deep house and Hip Hop tunes to the dictates of the mood. A resident of the Retro Bazzar with her “Breastmilk on the rocks” series of mixes featuring on Inanda’s Hood Up show, you’ll know when the Funk hits you, act like you know and say hi.
