Shanghai, China
DJ Matt Ying is a Shanghai-based vinyl DJ and music curator who began his journey in 1999. From 1999 to 2007, he was a resident DJ at DKD Club, one of Shanghai’s early underground electronic music venues. His sound was shaped by Tech House, Progressive House, Techno and Bass, with a strong influence from Japanese pioneer Shin Nishimura.
Matt has opened for and shared the stage with international artists including Armin van Buuren, Nick Warren, BT, Carl Cox, Miss Kittin and Takkyu Ishino. In 2004, he placed second in a Pioneer DJ three-turntable mixing competition.
In 2005, during Nick Warren’s appearance at DKD, Matt was interviewed by Global Underground and featured in the profile material connected to Global Underground #028.
Today, he continues to hand-mix vinyl without Sync and develops VINYLLECTRO, combining the human timing and texture of records with Ableton Live edit-mix production.
Not nostalgia. An attitude. Music for listeners, not just DJs.
