Binghamton, United States

MUSIC OF THE FIRST WARD features musical recordings from the mid-1980's by a loose collective of film student friends living in the First Ward district of Binghamton, NY, a post-industrial, Upstate college town. These sounds are mostly improvised experimental music using a 4-track cassette deck and an assortment of discarded instruments, cheap electronics and noise making toys. This group recorded over 100 hours of music over several years under a variety of names including: Jack Survives, Tiny Swizzle Sticks, Rotating Zebras, Beneath the Box, These Tiny Time Capsules, and many more. These sessions were centered around Ray St. Denis and Dave Gresalfi and often included Bill Lambertson, Doug Foote and occasionally Larry Klein and Luke Eder, A host of other guests also made appearances including Roger Peltzman and Seth Kaufman, later of Mambo-X and The Fancy Shapes fame. Music of the First Ward performed live several times in Binghamton and also in Albany under various names.
