Wonderful selection, as always, John!
I loved the relaxed dub vibe at the beginning and the fantastic Iberian guitar track that closed this wonderful show. 😊
Have a good one, John!
Greetings from snowy Berlin. ☃️

Lord Brett Headset

Thanks Andras. You've had proper snow, then? Nothing but flurries in South London, and it hasn't really settled.

That guitar finale was from your compatriot, Rudiger Krause, from a whole album of Carla Bley covers he released as "A Guitar Called Carla". The whole album's worth a listen.

All the best to you and K and M - hope it's a good year for you all. 🙏

Furio Frakes

@LordBrettHeadset That's great, I absolutely have to listen to that album. Thank you so much for the recommendation, John! 😊
And yes, we've had and will have plenty of snow, because there's supposed to be a snowstorm in Berlin tomorrow. My father-in-law is visiting right now and was supposed to fly back to Scotland tomorrow. He postponed his flight because of the approaching winter storm. M is very happy about that, because it means she can go sledding with her grandpa on Saturday. 😁 I'm so happy for her.
Give my best to Gill!

@Furio_Frakes Sounds like you've got a great weekend coming up 😃
Will be looking out on FB for pics of Marie sledding with Gramps 🛷

Dreamy selection to start the day with J. Just the ticket (see what I did there?!). Loved the last three tracks in particular.
Sven Wunder’s playing the Jazz Caf at the end of the month. Two shows in one day. Quite liked the idea of the matinee show, perfect for an old timer like me.

Lord Brett Headset

Haha, telepathy. Today's to-do list included sorting a WhatsApp group (including you) for Sven Wunder at the Jazz Cafe. @GillianoT and I have already got tickets. And, yes, we went for the codger-friendly matinee slot.

Watch out for incoming...

@LordBrettHeadset breath bated.

wahine_dj

Very nice. I was thinking this was The Ironsides, but Shazam corrected me. All hats off to Sven Wunder.

Lord Brett Headset

Ironsides? I can see that. Go and see Sven Wunder live if you ever get the chance. Caught him at London's Jazz Cafe the other weekend and it was non-stop pure beauty from start to finish.

wahine_dj

@LordBrettHeadset I would be there in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, Atlanta doesn’t get much talent on that level

wahine_dj

Nice dig 👍🏽

Durand Jones is never a bad place to start 😌

Lord Brett Headset

Thanks for your ears and feedback 🙏
I like his voice a lot, but there's something about that track in particular that just lifts my heart.

Magda Brand (-ODZLJ)

Beautiful music in this one as well 😍 . That Sven Wunder's tune is one of my favorites.

Lord Brett Headset

Thanks 🙏

Sven Wunder played at the Jazz Cafe in London last weekend. He managed to squeeze nine musicians onto their stage, including a four piece string section. Now that was some beautiful music.

READE!

For a minute I thought this was Sampa the Great! But no, a new discovery - what a great track.

Lord Brett Headset

"Lion" was straight up my favourite tune of 2025. And "Free" was another track from the same album, Lotus, that would have been a contender as well. That was a big album over here but I'm guessing it was a bit more niche in the States?

Ever since they put out "Point and Kill" back in 2021, I've been wishing that Little Simz and Obongjayar would do a whole album together. They sound so good together. One day.

I dig her flow and invention anyway but something extra special happens when she works it on top of an afrobeat rhythm.

Been playing that on repeat all year 🌟

playjazzloud

what a bright track to kick things off! soul!

Lord Brett Headset

Copy that 👌
Felt like front loading some upful tunes into this set before Blue Monday, and all those articles explaining why this is the most depressing time of the year :)

papamango

a grand day-starter of a selection M'Lord! thoroughly enjoyed this and especially the way each track tilted and/or sidestepped to the next in such a way that it felt like I'd travelled much further than the just shy of an hour of music here could suggest possible - if you wrapped the end back round to touch the starting track the contrast would be huge; I like that a lot!
cheers and hope you're having a pleasing Sunday there, P🙏🖖🤸‍♂️

Lord Brett Headset

Appreciate that Papa, because I always enjoy sets that drift a long way from their starting point with a kind of natural evolution. So pleased if I've pulled that off.

Hope you've had a pleasant Sunday yourself. It's been brass monkeys in London but I got out to a local cinema to see Barbara Stanwyck being a fabulous cynical seductress in a special matinee of Baby Face. So it's all good. 👌

Ivan Petrovic ( EF)

Love it! Always gear selection! All the best in 2026! Cheers

Lord Brett Headset

Thanks Ivan and all the best for the new year 🙌
