Love your sound, Sir! I stream a Sunday Cafe that’s meant to deliver a similar vibe, but with wider scope - your selections are fantastic. Following you now!

Lord Brett Headset

Thanks for listening BC.
Here's to a wide scope. Let's keep our ears open until we turn up our toes.

Horsefly56

Good stuff! Your releases don't seem to show up on my notifications so I must keep more alert. This was a perfect listen on a bright cold morning. May the funk be with you!!!

Lord Brett Headset

Cheers fly, and with you also. Though I know I can usually rely on your mixes for some mutant jazz-funk stylings.
Mixcloud opportunities have been more restricted lately so I've got a backlog of yours to check out. Looking forward to that.

Furio Frakes

That was another excellent session, Lord.
I made some really nice discoveries here. Thank you for bringing this Bebel Gilberto track to my attention, which in turn led me to discover her album "Tanto Tempo".
All the best to you!

Lord Brett Headset

Cheers Furio, thanks for the kind words. I think the Da Lata mix really makes that Bebel Gilberto track , so you might like Da Lata's music as well if you don't know it already. Season's greetings to you and yours!

Furio Frakes

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely check them out, too. Season's greetings to you and yours as well.

L-Double

excellent x❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lord Brett Headset

Thanks!

Citizens of Sound

Superb selection - really enjoyed the laid back groove. The opener, and the dub especially. Love how you cast your net wide and drew in a lovely collection of tunes. Funnily enough Shazam reckoned the last track was Deep Purple - that had me flipping my lid. Blimey, everything went sideways for a minute but (relatively) normal service has been resumed. Thanks once again LBH 🙏🏽✌🏽

Lord Brett Headset

Deep Purple??? That's brilliant. Bless you, Shazam. What were you hearing with your tiny algorithmic robot ears?

Glad you liked it COS, thought the dub section might be up your street.

Lord Brett Headset

Just been enjoying your last Horizontal Hour for Marlow FM. Hypnotic. Liked the kalimbacentric track - was that Oke? Penultimate track was kind of lovely as well.

Citizens of Sound

Much appreciate the listening and feedback 🙏🏽
The Oké track is the kalimbatastic track - the whole album is highly recommended - includes an amazing version/rework/update of the classic A Night in Tunisia. And Ariel Kalma is pretty special too. The tracklist states GSH is the last track but the Hour is only 57 mins due to being curtailed from having 3 mins of ads at the very start of the 3 hour mix. So Undefined is the last track and no Gil.
Cheers LBH ✌🏽

Lord Brett Headset

I'm hearing your sign-off for the show, then Gil comes in afterwards?
Great hour anyway. Liked the way that there was a dub aesthetic threading its way through, like you cut your teeth on dub reggae and the ghost of that was lingering in the music even when it was a different genre.

Citizens of Sound

Apologies LBH - you are astute as ever. The mixcloud version is the the full mix rather than the curtailed one which aired on the night. So, the penultimate track is Undefined - fabulous Japanese digi-dub - book ending the session. Hope tunes are keeping you warm - music is the heating force! 🔥✌🏽

...and yes, that's funny:
I simply didn't register it as a sax, but do remember thinking the 'clarinet' had a spritely, dancing character that sounded familiar... great stuff.

Lord Brett Headset

No, I can see why you thought that. Like you say, the lines he's playing are a bit like something a clarinet might play, and even his tone sounds a bit more like a woodwind in places. I love his playing on that tune. It's not like he gets to take a big solo but it's all about the little fills and flourishes. And the way he dovetails with Bheki Mseleku's playing on the coda.

papamango

aha! have been checking your stream for the past couple of weeks; at last...
.
beeeeauuuutiful openers - that John Surman piece: sublime and then the Johanna Burnheart one...).
that version of Change ...
.
really loving this Dreamticket M'Lord - and am only 20m in! papa🙏🙏

Lord Brett Headset

Cheers Papa, I can get lost in that Surman piece. Getting fascinated by that Johanna Burnheart piece as well, but a bit tardy finally following the breadcrumbs there because I first heard her in Rosie Turton's band supporting Pharaoh Sanders at Ronnies back in 2018. Better late than never. Music: it's an inexhaustible resource.

papamango

happily, very true ('inexhaustible resource')!
yes, this was a gorgeous session indeed - have a strong feeling will be repeat listening; loved the slow shifting of the flavour (touching by dub and introducing flecks of a more urban setting until returning (resolving) with the upbeat clarinet closer...).
hoping my memory isn't goosing me, but am fairly certain that I had the pleasure of seeing John Surman perform a live soundtrack-accompaniment to a very old silent movie once, many years ago, in an arts-space in Cardiff... (may just be a past-life experience; ha!)...
cheers once more for this one; lovely job. PM.

Lord Brett Headset

Surman accompanying a silent movie sounds great! I like that sort of thing.
Closer track does sound a bit like a clarinet but that's Courtney Pine on soprano there, in really fine form I think. Lifts the spirit.
Thanks for the ears and appreciation - now, when are we going to get a new Future Sound Of Nibley?

papamango

soon 😊🙏
