Leiyahwh
London, United Kingdom
Leiyah is a uber-talented singer-songwriter who was born to first-generation Jamaican parents in
Croydon, South London. The 21-year old prodigy was surrounded by music at a very young age, with
several family members involved in the industry, including her late uncle Earl ‘Wya’ Lindo. Earl was
an original member of Bob Marley and the Wailers and helped nurture her early interest in music by
teaching her to play Guitar and Piano, which fundamentally helped her hone her songwriting skills.
Her late father was also a DJ, playing Reggae on the Gemini sound system out of Brixton. So music
was everywhere in her household, and she was named after two of her mother and aunt’s favourite
RnB vocalists and was christened Aaliyah Whitney Hibbert after the two queens. Her elder brother
also helped shape her musical sound by banging out the latest Hip-Hop and Grime sounds alongside
her mother’s classic 70s and 80s soul sounds throughout the family home.
