DJ Kompact is a DJ, producer and media artist residing in Vienna / Austria. Starting out as a hip-hop performer, who ranks himself among true school and instrumental hip-hop, strongly influenced by artists like Pete Rock, Jay Dee, People Under The Stairs, DJ Spinna or RJD2, his style now encompasses dub, reggae, dubstep, 8bit music, house and minimal. The emphasis in his music and sets lies in rough drums, heavy sample usage and true b-boy storytelling, to strike a distance from cheap rap cliche's and bling-bling oriented pop music. Together with Lens J. of the mixed media artist collective Rotaug he forms the group Obahuba, a formation known for electronic music between deep-house, minimal and electro.
