Torres Interview

Avatar

TORRES, real name Mackenzie Scott, releases her second album, Sprinter, in May. Last week, Hoxton Radio met her for a quick chat at Strongroom, Shoreditch, and asked her what it was like recording in an abandoned nursery in Dorset with PJ Harvey producer Rob Ellis, how the writing process for this new album differed from her debut, TORRES, and what she likes to do when she gets (rare) free time in London. We also talked love and hate, and where the inspiration to “put both on the same page” (in the song Strange Hellos) came from.

Originally from Georgia, TORRES (whose moniker comes from her Grandfather’s surname) studied songwriting in Nashville, and now lives in Brooklyn with her cat. Only 24, she has already supported Sharon Van Etten (and appears on SVE’s track Our Love) and played SXSW. This summer, she tours the US and Europe, before returning to Dorset in September for an appearance at End of the Road Festival.
