The mainstream music industry abuses Hip Hop culture by centralizing images of racism, sexism, homophobia, criminality, and gross materialism. Corporate conglomerates control the platform of rap music, creating huge profits by depicting a one-dimensional narrative that perpetuates a legacy of racist representation.
This narrative encourages the criminalization of black and brown youth. It legitimizes violent systems of oppression that destroy people, family, and communities through police brutality, mass incarceration, and economic abandonment.
Real Hip Hop culture is rooted in community empowerment. It provides a culturally relevant platform for creative self-expression, education, and activism.
HipHopForChange is building a space for the voice of local Hip Hop to thrive.
