This is a strange one. It starts with some blues and uplifting jazz & soul sounds, soars all over the caribbean, then drifts off to some oriental dream land and sort of comes full circle with D. Charles Spear's greekish blues meditation, while the last three songs are recent releases from troubled Mali and New York/Addis and a re-issue from Nigeria. It's all in there, the bubbly and the depressed, the introspective and the extroverted, the authentic and the hybrid, but hey, i guess that's how i felt that night. All records are either from the last flea market raid or new releases i either bought or received. Badawi's tune is an exception, i own this thing since '99, but I thought it fitted quite nicely when i recorded all this in front of a select audience in our basement. It was followed by a three hour frenzy by DJ Mohair Sam that will hopefully pop up in these clouds someday. Alas, for some hellish reason, this one here only survived in 128. Hope you enjoy it anyhow, [freak]
