Fluid Japan cover image

Fluid Japan specialize in a fluid mix of alternative and electronic styles. Their music is atmospheric with heavy retro synths and layers of shimmering vocal harmonies. The imagery behind their songs is fueled by the sprawling urban landscape of Tokyo; the very same that inspired the movie Blade Runner and William Gibson’s “Neuromancer”.

Fluid Japan’s songs are new wave, dream pop, shoegaze, darkwave, synthpop, post-punk, ambient, art rock, and sophistapop.

Formed in Japan and bonding over a love of the Cocteau Twins, YMO, and the Chameleons U.K., Fluid Japan was active in the flourishing Tokyo indie music scene of the 90s, with radio appearances and live dates at various music festivals. Their songs have been released on several Tokyo and British indie compilation CDs. While now primarily based in the U.S., with members there and in Japan, their musical collaborators are located around the globe, including Hong Kong, England, Germany, Japan, the United States, and Australia.
