First Love Community Radio

London, United Kingdom

Goes Live on 1st October 2022!

The history of radio is a major part of history for people in Lewisham. For more than 40 years, many people of African and Caribbean backgrounds have pioneered the emergence of radio and media in the borough, as a way of sustaining cohesiveness within their communities, creating opportunities to share beautiful music, current affairs, spaces for creative cultural expression, and important news that affects and
influences their lived experiences.

But many have not yet been acknowledged for their contribution to Lewisham’s rich, thriving, and diverse cultural communities.

In the 80s, a well-known pirate radio station called Rock II Rock, was pioneered by Lee Laing, Tony Prince, and Mikey Simpson, and used to broadcast across Lewisham and beyond.

These three pioneers, being committed to seeing their community thrive, gave many young DJs their first taste of radio broadcasting in Lewisham.

Out of Rock II Rock emerged First Love Community Radio
