Mo'Jazz 91 : Caravan

About the show

Playing tracks by

Rachel Portman, Duke Ellington, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Dick d'Alaise and more.

"Caravan" is a jazz standard composed by Juan Tizol and first performed by Duke Ellington in 1936.
And that's why they're called standards...so everyone can have their own version...here's a few!

My favourite version before hearing these was Michel Petrucciani Solo in Paris.

Great list. My personal favorite is by the Terry Gibbs quartet, released on Mercury. The front line consisted of vibes, played by Gibbs of course, and accordion played by Pete Jolly. It's the most interesting cover I have ever heard. The accordion is the most appropriate instrument for the main harmony - you just don't know until you hear.

Mouth open wide :-0 "speechless" Cassandra Williams version was my favorite..loved the underpinning poly- rhythmical lines from the percussionist and the riff of the guitarist...

Sorry about the error in spelling...I meant Cassandra Wilson...;-) However, she and Erykah Badu can do no wrong for me ! I just love their artistic vocal styling. I am also a huge fan of Rachelle Ferrell and will be featuring her in a session. As always Bro...Dam good Mix ... Much Love and respect

Thanks for the education. I loved hearing the 1936 version. Best for me was Ellington, Mingus and Roach.
