Red Beat morphed from The Jones Boys, After Science and Wheel of Change. In 1979 lead vocalist Roy Jones, Drummer Paul "Drumologist" Jones and Bassist Majid Ahmed made the move to London from High Wycombe after recording the Debut E.P. Machines in Motion, Red Beat, More or Less Cut with Mark Lusardi at Gooseberry Studios, Gerrard Street, Soho, London. This 12" was released on Malicious Damage Records with Artwork from Michael Coles.

Red Beat performed support concerts with Killing Joke, U2, The Cramps, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Meteors, The Thompson Twins, Big Country, Captain Sensible, Hawkwind and Elder Brother 80's Synth Pop Icon Howard Jones.
