From days lost but not forgotten music has always been a higher truth for DJ Kpoh, known as Mr. Afrobeats. Having lost his parents at age 12 during the Liberian civil war that ripped through neighboring villages Kpoh recalls hearing Fela Kuti for the first time while being in a Ivory Coast refugee camp. The beat of resilience arose as he began spinning for refugees, many of whom had also lost their families. Afrobeat and Afropop cassettes planted seeds of hope and launched a life long music journey for Kpoh who went on to open for top international musicians such as Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Alpha Blondy, Salif Keita, King Sunny Ade Konono No 1 and Zap Mama. DJ Kpoh with his amassed collection of world music reminiscent of the first music that inspired his life with funk and soul, established himself as one of the top world beat DJ's in San Francisco before recently relocating to New York to continue his DJ Journey into the music of African Diaspo!ra!
