I tend to go through phases of listening to a lot of jazz and then not listening to it much at all. The tracks included here are definitely relics of one of these early jazz-listening phases--lots of cool jazz, Latin influences (mostly bossa nova), even some lounge tracks. I was into lounge (or as some call it, "Soft Jazz") before making the jump over to some of the harder, more pure stuff.
A couple of jazz-fusion pieces are here as well. I know a few "serious" jazz listeners who tend to scoff at the Headhunters or Mahavishnu Orchestra, and while I will admit that I do have a hard time sitting through an album of Mahavishnu, some of their tracks are amazing--"Cosmic Strut" (the track here) in particular. If you're not energized by that song, I suspect there may be something wrong with you.
