Sure, I made the odd mix tape back in high school. But I really only became seriously interested in mixes and playlists when I was a radio dj on KUPS Tacoma. I had a two hour show called "Magic Radio" on the weekend and had the freedom to play whatever I wanted. I would give everything from classic rock to progressive to funk to electronic to lounge to trip-hop to jazz a spin.
However, it was a bootleg copy of a Jazzanova Betalounge set that really inspired me to try and put together the kind of mixes that I make today. I edited that Jazzanova set down into two one-hour discs and would put these on in the morning before my commute. I used the music to time my routine so that I was always walking out the door (at the end of the hour) just as the disc would conclude. Eventually, I wanted more variety for the morning music and so began to try my hand at making and burning mix discs of my own. The results are the one hour (or so) playlists that I share here. I hope you enjoy them!
