Los Angeles, United States

As a teen, Dean was the quintessential big-haired High Fidelity record store queerdo club kid. He began DJing in the late '90s at West Hollywood nightclub Rage for "Alternative" Mondays. For years he hosted weekly radio show That Damn Cat for KBLT until the pirate radio station was shut down. (In the back pages of station founder Sue Carpenter's memoir, '40 Watts to Nowhere,' you'll find him credited as "Dean Berkeley.") He worked for record labels in Production and Creative departments. (High points: He designed Berlin's Voyeur album cover & packaging. He flew Janet Jackson's 'Velvet Rope' audio master to Australia. The Spice Girls served him tea.) A journalist and Music Editor, he has written countless reviews, interviewed Tori Amos, Cyndi Lauper & more, provided many features for local, national magazines. Currently he is resident DJ of queer culture dance party R&D: Desearch & Revelopment and member of The Sound Lab collective with monthly shows on KQBH 101.5 FM and KCHUNG 1630 AM.
