Inspiration touches us, but only if we're in the present and ready to accept it. When I was younger, my Dad and brother preferred that I get out of the way, instead of helping them to fix our cars. I did't realize at the time what a gift that was. I went back inside to listen to records. About a year and a half ago, I read an article about this guy who is a lawyer by day and a Dj by night. When I read the article, I didn't know at the time just how much Alan King would go on to inspire me. I have a long commute and I started listening to his mixes. I fell in love with a genre of music I had totally missed - soulful house.
It is said, "imitation is the sincerest of flattery." This mix is my small gesture of gratitude, first, for my brother and my Pops, but it is for AK, who inspired me to get my Technics 1200's out of the closet, where I had them stashed for over a decade, and back spinning tunes once again. Thank you. And... thanks to you for listening and sharing.
