Nyc / Las Vegas, Puerto Rico
The year is 1991, NYC, West 27th Street NYC, Saturday night at the legendary Sound Factory night club, with Junior Vasquez on the decks mixing to a crowd of thousands. Doing so on what has to be the best club sound system ever. New to the scene, and merely 13 years old, young SoNiK was immediately drawn to the art of Djing. The style of mixing was unique to only a handful of truly talented artists, and SoNiK wanted a taste. In a cult-like fashion, SoNiK was at the Factory every Saturday to hear Junior rock the house up until they closed the club a few years later. This time served as basic training for Djing, and SoNiK quickly began to learn the tricks of the trade. Finally in 1998, he purchased a pair of turntables and a mixer, and with he began to DJ. About 7 years later, Swammy began to DJ in lounges and bars in the NJ/NY metro area, all under his birth given name. After leaving NYC in 2007, he began to DJ in clubs in Puerto Rico under the guise of DJ SoNiK.
