Brisbane, Australia
The following tracks are like a story, designed to be listened one after another. Be patient it goes places and ends with a siren, more punk than funk.
Growing up in London in the late 70's I was witness to the rise of the 2 Tone movement and Punk. Too young to be a real participant, I was a fan of early Madness and Police tracks, Baggy Trousers and Roxanne and Donna Summer's Upside Down. When I moved to Brisbane in 1984 I found my feet in the 2 tone rude boy movement, playing in garage/cult/ska band Anonymous Pikelet 1985-86, before 1987 The Skansters who shone brightly but burned up quickly. I used a car loan to buy a sequencer and sampler in 1990's, it used to belong to Boxcar and was to replace all the musicians needed in Ska. While my new toy was calling me, the lure of the dance floor was stronger, Brisbane's club scene in the 90's was wicked and when I moved to Sydney in 98 I bought my first decks and started collecting dance vinyl, Big Beat and Skint especially.
