Incidentally, I have a mix going out tonight on Marlow FM - the Horizontal Hour 11pm-midnight. I recorded it a few weeks ago before the hallucinatory mirage of Nibley hove into view so I feel I've already moved on. The Loading Bay Crew do the Essential Mix which includes the Horizontal Hour every month and I got an invite to do the HH element this time. Really nice set with a good mix of old favourites and things that were new to me like Huw Marc Bennett and Cosmo Sheldrake. Loved the whole closing section from Funk Inc onwards. Mighty McCoy Tyner selection, some volcanic playing on that one. Top job.
The more I listen to McCoy Tyner's solo stuff the deeper my love for his music. I also really like the contrast with the incredible Alice Coltrane's playing - muscular modality Vs spiraling angelic ragas. A beautiful contrast but both amazing.
Delighted to introduce you to Huw Marc Bennett & Cosmo Sheldrake too. Very talented and interesting musicians. It took me almost a year to decide to buy HMB's Tresilian Bay ep - I kept going back to it and listening but it was too gentle or subtle for me. But it was me that was in the wrong place! Think I got one of the last copies and I absolutely love it. An amazing set of tunes. Don't know where my head was but glad I came to my senses and saw the light on that one.

That's the way sometimes, isn't it? The slow can burners dig in for longer than the music that grabs you on first hearing.
