My second mix. After the clusterbomb that was The Manic Mix, I wanted to settle down and work on something more serious. The Melancholic Mix is the polar opposite; it is downtempo, quiet and bleak. Here I wanted to create a continous, shifting atmosphere out of relaxing, yet darkly brooding pieces of music.
The result is a haunting soundscape, to which one can contemplate the more unsettling things in life. At the same time, it's good music to sleep to. Most of these tracks are strangely hypnotic.
The atmosphere of the mix comes from a wide variety of styles and genres. There's trip hop, alternative, solo piano, dark ambient, electronic and much more. In my mixes, I tend to focus on the mood, and I am always surpised at the many different ways in which it can be expressed.
Enjoy it, in any way you see fit.
