A Luta Continua

A mix of 45s from the hey day of the Angolan recording industry between 1970-1977. Much of it is produced by Carlos Vieira Dias, who is considered the godfather of the modern Angolan popular music tradition. The music during these times was often heavily influenced by the socio-political mood of the era which was pushing inevitably towards independence (the war against the Portuguese colonialists began in 1961 and lasted until 1974). Some of the songs here are in Portuguese, others in Kimbundu and possibly other languages, but the spirit of the Angolan people shines through. A luta continua (the struggle continues).
