I started DJing in 2008, and at the same time a change was occurring. Global recession and new socio-political climates were followed by a vibrant influx of wanting to carelessly party till the sun came up. Pop surged with electro/disco influences, festivals grew, DJs became hit-making producers, and radio charts showcased a variety of big comebacks and eccentric newcomers (and, the rise of Lady Gaga). The late 2000’s were truly iconic.
This mix (6 HOURS I KNOW) is a curated backlog of my arsenal from that time period, a love letter to when I first started this hobby, and a throwback to what I consider the last great golden era of pop. This is also as much a non-stop dance mix as it is me taking the power back; showcasing how, as a survivor of assault ten years ago and living with HIV, I have thrived. Most of all it’s dedicated to my family and friends, namely my sister, who has been my biggest inspiration for my metamorphosis the past decade. Thank you, Caitie. 💖
