Welcome to Barkley — AKA DJ PRIDE.
My DJ story started in the late 1980s in and around London. Just as the sounds of Chicago, Detroit and New York were finding their way into UK clubs and warehouses. I lived through that incredible transition from house and acid house in ’88/’89 into the rave, techno and breakbeat of the early ’90s and the beginnings of jungle and drum & bass.
Playing vinyl as DJ PRIDE from around 1989–95, I played alongside names including Carl Cox, Fabio, Grooverider, and so many more big names!...
More than 30 years later, I’ve pulled the Technics and flight cases back out, opened the boxes of records and started playing again.
I’ve also kept a box of original early ’90s cassettes, home mixes, live gigs, MCs and London pirate radio recordings, which I’ll be digging through too.
Expect old-school house, acid house, rave, techno, breakbeat, early drum & bass and club classics.
