Afrobeat Orbit is a genre-fluid, diaspora-forward music show hosted by DJ Eme, a founding DJ of WOWD 94.3 FM, Takoma Radio in Takoma Park, Maryland.
The show grew out of Jolly Papa, a co-created program Eme co-hosted during the station's first week on air in 2016. When that partnership ended, the show took a new name and a sharper focus: tracing the through-lines between traditional and contemporary African music and the wider diaspora — Afrobeat and highlife, Congolese rumba, Ethiopian jazz, and the modern sounds connecting Lagos, Kinshasa, Accra, London, and the DMV.
Ten years on, Afrobeat Orbit broadcasts Wednesdays, 1–3 PM ET, at 94.3 FM and streams worldwide. Recent guests include Memphis Gold, Jimmy Brown of UB40, Georges Collinet of Afropop Worldwide — now an occasional guest co-host — and Franck Biyong, who discussed his album NAMBALA.
