My music business life in seven offices by Doug D'Arcy.
On August 24th 1968 I went to a Free Concert in Hyde Park. I met Chris Wright a friend from university who was managing Ten Years After who were playing that day. He offered me my first job as a booking agent for the Ellis-Wright Agency. I was broke and jumped at the chance. I started work on Monday August 26th and I began my life in the music business.
The popular image of the music business involves clubs, tours, festivals and lots of parties. I spent most of my time in an office with the usual desks and filing cabinets. The only difference from an ordinary office was lots of hi-fi equipment and stacks of tapes.
I decided to write about the seven different offices I worked in. I wanted to remember what it was like and how we managed to have such an exciting time.
