Third Place producer Brian Marks interviews Emily Zucchino and Scot Quaranda of the Dogwood Alliance on their Our Forests Aren't Fuel campaign, which toured Baton Rouge on June 17th, 2015. Earlier that day, Brian spoke with Scot and Emily on forest biomass exports from the American South to Europe, where electricity from biomass-fired power plants is being sold (and heavily subsidized) as renewable, clean energy. We discuss the problems with using forests as fuel, both for rural communities in Louisiana and across the South and for reducing CO2 emissions and combating global climate change. We focus on Drax, a UK company whose big white domes at the Baton Rouge port are currently exporting wood pellets to England with the support of large Louisiana state and European government subsidies.
