On this week's Third Place, we join Donald Hodge, Esq., a Baton Rouge attorney who unraveled the story of who among Louisiana's parish Clerks of Court were, or were not, issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples following the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling. Hodge, who called all 64 parish clerks' offices, personally convinced several to begin following the law. He also uncovered the last holdout among them, Red River Parish Clerk Stuart Shaw, and relates his conversations with Shaw, the Red River Parish D.A. and Sheriff, and others he called during his 'Yellow Brick Road' of investigation. We also discuss Louisiana being the last state in America to grant same-sex marriage licenses and how this relates to Louisiana Governor "Bobby" Jindal's religious freedom executive order, the state's Attorney General, State Rep. Mike Johnson (R-District 8, Bossier City), the author of the deferred Marriage and Conscience Act, and religious conservative "dog whistle" politics.
