This week's Third Place is with four guests associated with the TOSTEM project, an initiative of the Shackles of Memory foundation of Nantes, France dedicated to the historical memory of slavery and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The project will produce art works and encourage appropriate cultural tourism on the history of slavery in Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa. The NuNu Arts and Culture Collective is hosting three participants in the project - Alex Bien-Aime of Haiti, Mark Brown of Antigua and Barbuda, and Philippe Monges of France, in an artist-in-residence at NuNu's facility in Arnaudville where they will produce art works on the subject of slavery and its legacies in the present. Third Place speaks with them, and NuNu founder George Marks, on their art, their experiences in Louisiana, and how slavery's history and the contemporary situation in their countries shape their artistic expression.
