Third Place speaks with Professor Clovis Maksoud, former Ambassador of the Arab League to the U.S. and UN and director of the Center for the Study of the Global South at American University. Professor Maksoud visited Louisiana this November, giving several public lectures in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Guest host Brian Marks and Dr. Maksoud discuss the contemporary Arab World, Maksoud's thesis that globalization presents a paradox of integration and fragmentation, and the situation in countries like Egypt, Syria, Palestine, and Iraq. Dr. Maksoud gives his perspective on a one-state solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict and why the term 'Middle East' is inappropriate to define the Arab World.
