WTM #1145: ElectroBlues ~ Radio Patapoe 88.3 ~ Amsterdam ~ 20.02.12
For her b'day in Feb., Nina invited frenzs to join her @ the Melkweg to see De Kift with Monofocus. The Ex & De Kift are the 2 reigning great Dutch bands, anarcho/syndicalist or otherwise. De Kift have great texts that sound like 19th-c. naturalist novels or Brecht-Weill tales. But this perf. also feat. dear comrades, Monofocus [http://www.myspace.com/monofocus] who describe themselves as a French 1-man band with 3 heads. They bridge a trance-y fusion of blues & electronica successfully because the roots seem genuinely cultivated & the electronica is an organic aspect of this exploration, not just an add-on for dance track sales. Great mesmerizing, driving, humming, thumping danceable intelligent & syncopated beats & some great 21st-c blues. That said, I suddenly notice more electronica interactions between blues & electronica especially in the electro-swamp-blues of Boojoo Bajou, a German duo.
