Phew, the alias of Japanese Hiromi Moritani, is a long-time inspiration for WOE, so it's with great pleasure we have her contribute mix number ten in our ongoing Inner World series. Moritani's work over the last four decades has consistently explored the outer limits of several intersecting genres, constructing a kind of post-humanist dialogue that challenges the relationship between technology and emotional expression. This mix appears to take a similar approach, using Sumako Matsui's station numbers recordings as its recurring basis and freewheels through various transgressive styles and performances, connecting lines where they weren't initially obvious, be that Johnny Thunders, The Crystals, Stockhausen or Molly Drake. Moritami cites nostalgia and postmodernism as key themes in selecting the tracks, which makes perfect sense given how it resultant mix spirals disorientingly through both the avant garde and the pop culture of the 20th century. Worthy of the highest praise!
