January 1949, RCA introduced the 45 rpm record, including the 7" format and the large center hole. In honor of the 75th anniversary, here's a mix of what you could find on a 45. Start with a Bob Newhart comedy routine (from a promo single), and sampling of country, r&b, blues, and pop. Also included are weird B-sides; the infamous B-side to Napoleon XIV's "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Ha!" played backwards, odd fillers from The Beatles and Liz Phair. Other highlights include Bo Diddley playing doubles in "Say Man", lost single by Earnest Jackson "Inflation", and song only on B-side of the 45 and cassette "Daylight" by Asia. Also retried singles that I had problems with in previous shows, so that they play without skips. We finish with some 21st century Japanese singles by Negicco and Maki Nomiya.
