This mix is a tribute to Roy Ayers, one of my favourite musicians. Roy was born in 1940 and hails from South-Central Los Angeles. Ayers started recording as a bebop sideman in 1962 and rose to prominence when he joined jazz flutist Herbie Mann in 1966. In the early Seventies Roy formed the band Ubiquity and became one of jazz-funk’s leading proponents. At seventy-five Roy is still going strong and I can personally vouch that his live act is stunning. A true giant!

Classy and classic material from a legend - Really enjoyed the Love from the Sun; it coincided with a topic of Ancient Egypt i was viewing last night ; Oh Yeah - I am digging the drumming style of Chris Dave of late - wonderful mix brother
Had the pleasure of seeing Roy Ayers a while back and he is a legend for sure. He just radiates good vibes. And I got to see Chris Dave with Glasper and that was a session in rhythm not to be forgotten! Take care bro...
A very educational and entertaining tribute! I have 10 albums of his. Mostly on Atlantic. But I really wasn't aware of these great guest recordings (apart from Ramp)!
Nice to hear from you Mr Preacher. The early Roy Ayers stuff is definitely interesting. The Jack Wilson Quartet album Ramblin’ is worth checking out, and the David Newman albums "Lonely Avenue" and “Newmanism" are really good as well.
