Performing Rites

“Performing Rites” you can interpret that anywhichway you like. Perhaps there’s a spiritual element in the mix or maybe a nod towards the artists right to a living wage. You decide.
There is no particular theme to this mix - really its all about good music. Just jazz that I appreciate and I hope you will too. If I turn you on to some artists you are unaware of, all the better. So kick back, relax and dig the music.

Tracklist

Playing tracks by McCoy Tyner, Byard Lancaster, Chico Freeman, Marion Brown, Kenny Cox and more.

That Surman track was smokin'!

Agree about the Surman track. Unlike anything else I’ve got by him. The rhythm section are firing on all cylinders - that’s for sure.

This is a VERY strong & Spiritual selection...REALLY enjoyed it! Thanks... :=

Thanks for the link my brother... I will do my home work and check out the link . Will see if I can find the name of the track by Courtney Pine. Yes some friends who are deep in their understanding of music it is great to always call upon them.. it make for some really good conversation and keeps the friendship in good repair. My brother Keep doing what you are doing... LOve it !!! In about three month I will be uploading a mix entitled The Old Master Drummer hope you will give an ear ... LOve and respect my Man

Amazing session! Thanks

Thanks M&J appreciate your kind comment.

I had to call a friend who pointed to perhaps the Truby Trio .....???????

Correct - Donaueschingen by the Trüby Trio from 1998. If in doubt always call a friend!

Ok ..bro it is proving with difficulty to pin point exactly who sampled it with relations to how big a proportion .. as I'm hearing so many fragments of usage, for example vocal phrasing, some lines and styling were touch by Amel Larrieux / in parts of the horn structure and groove I know this, but can't seem to put finger on it...you will have catch me on a better think day on this one... However the track that followed and enter the mix so perfectly in clandestine. " Abscrections by Charles Tolliver was used by Courney Pine. ... would have to pull my collect of his and send you the name of the track and which album ...

There’s a nice funky version of Abscretions worth checking on Buddy Terry’s 1971 album “Awareness". Not sure about the Courtney Pine connection? If you work that one out, let me know.

mystical beyond comparison... it came strongly as a rite of passage into a world of difficulty and perplexity in jazz music and music of earnest . Those tunes that denoted their tonal center, share analogies to the characteristic eye of storm where is it calm before another volley of even more complexity conditions .... I really dug this session my brother :)

DJNG Lately, I’ve missed your salient comments! If I give you a wild and exhilarating trip into the belly of jazz - I am more than pleased. I will continue to tread this path of mystic jazzification for your pleasure and delectation.

A gold star if you can tell me who sampled Don Cherry's Humus?
