We've often said this, but this time we really mean it: we've been excited about the Afrobeat 'cast since our very inception. We've used the term loosely, to cover more traditional African sounds while combining elements of funk, soul, latin and other influences (including the Portuguese/Brazilian influence, the French influence and even a bit of dub). But labels are unimportant; what's important is the music. From melancholic ballads to driving rhythms, there's something unmistakable about the best African music that is exhilarating, atmospheric and seductive.
In the words of Nelson Mandela: "The curious beauty of African music is that it uplifts even as it tells a sad tale. You may be poor, you may have only a ramshackle house, you may have lost your job, but that song gives you hope."
